The In’s and Out’s of 2024

“In 2024, we have to know what we want, and find a way to get it because amazing opportunities don't find us, we find them.”

It’s 2024 and we are SO GLAD 2023 is over. With this chapter being closed and a new one being opened, we must say goodbye to outdated trends and hello to a zhuzhed up year. Since trends change constantly and are based on the public opinion, we decided to ask the seniors for their thoughts as well as incorporate our own. Here, officially, is The Python Post’s list of “In’s and Out’s” of 2024, followed by a brief explanation of our rationale for some of them.

In: Stanley Mugs and Thermos

Stanley cups are taking the world by storm! Stanley cups are so expensive, but that doesn't stop anyone from buying and collecting them. Just a few days ago, Stanley came out with Valentine’s Day themed tumblers and they were completely sold out in Target. There are videos floating around TikTok of the Stanley lovers running amok, trying to take a tumbler before it disappears. I don't see the Stanley cups hype dying down anytime soon, especially since they are very eco-friendly and work so well. Stanley cups are so in!

Out: Nonchalant Attitudes

What's so cool about not caring about anything? Literally nothing. Either people are “nonchalant” because they either think it's embarrassing to be vulnerable or to look cool. I think people just need to be more in tune with their feelings and communicate those feelings to others in a healthy way. I personally feel like the purpose of being on earth is to feel, experience, and connect with others. You only live once. Just love people unconditionally and show it. I've had countless conversations about how sick of that “nonchalant” persona everyone is. When this is brought up, it's usually in the context of a person they are interested in romantically, so it seems to be a trend for teens that are romantically connected. Maybe people think it's appealing to others if they act “chill” but the truth is, it's so gross when the person you like doesn't seem to care enough about you and your connection. Being nonchalant is honestly out in 2024 because no one actually likes it, and it's very annoying to deal with it in a friend, crush, significant other, or anyone you talk to.

In: Jacob Elordi

Jacob Elordi is definitely in this year. Elordi gained popularity as an attractive male actor since his roles in The Kissing Booth and Euphoria, Elordi has been in the spotlight roughly around almost 6 years. But truly, proved to be a Hollywood IT boy in 2023 for his two amazing roles such as Elvis in Sofia Coppola 2023 movie Pricillia and Felix Catton in Emerald Fennell 2023 Saltburn, everyone has been crushing over him! A mixture of his sculpted looks, boy-ish charm, and Australian accent has everyone swooning! This is definitely because Saltburn is very cinematic and shows montages of his character that highlighted his beauty. Jacob Elordi has taken over the internet; everyone is talking about him, watching all of his interviews, and making edits of him (one of the most popular ones has 6.6m views so far). Say “ello mate!” to Jacob Elordi as he makes his mark in 2024!

Out: Expecting Opportunities to Find You

People have such high expectations for their lives, but don't put any work into making it happen. As humans we like to often stay in our comfort zones and are okay with going along with the bare minimum. Teens often expect others to maintain any form of relationships but never put in the effort to keep up with them. This ties into teens liking to stay comfortable with what they know. We are all getting older and developing everyday and eventually it will affect our professional lives. Most adults stick with habits they have as teens. This leads to getting to a point in life where they won’t ever want to go out of their comfort zones to find different internships, jobs, make connections, and more. If this mindset persists, it can definitely hold them back in life from being the best versions of themselves. There's no reason not to, because even a person with okay academics can try to build connections with those around them and grow. Not only will this help them as individuals, it will add fulfillment to their lives. In 2024, we have to know what we want, and find a way to get it because amazing opportunities don't find us, we find them.

Finally…

With the new year just beginning and highschool being over in just around 5 months for class of 2024, high school is so OUT and college is so IN. These last 4 years have been a foundational and exciting part of our lives that won’t ever be forgotten. Now we have to go through another transition of childhood into adulthood as we all become important people in the world. With this transition comes more maturity, responsibility, and ownership. This may seem like a drag, but we also go into a space where we can leave our marks, make changes, and have our voices be heard. I think almost every senior feels ready to get out of highschool and go to their ideal college to pursue their dreams, to the point where they are almost sick and tired of high school. With this being said, COLLEGE IS SO IN!
